Frea Buckler

Frea Buckler studied Fine Art at Central Saint Martins in London and completed her Master’s degree in Multidisciplinary Printmaking at the University of the West of England in Bristol, where she now lives and works. Frea has exhibited her prints internationally, whilst also working on major commissions and public art projects. She uses screen printing as a tool for drawing, creating unplanned, one-off printed works on paper, whilst maintaining the precision and technique of screen printing but following her intuition. She instinctively chooses colours and shapes as her starting point, works quickly and builds upon what has emerged in previous stages of printing. Frea navigates a space between chaos and control to create her abstract prints. Her forms bend, fold and open up in various directions. Frea’s prints thus play with illusion and perception. They may appear three-dimensional, but are flat and thus reveal the potential to be something they are not at the same time. Her works have been commissioned by, amongst others, the Denver Art Museum and Imperial Health Charity, and are held in the public collections of the University of Warwick, the University of Edinburgh and Trinity College.
