Alexander Bondar

Alexander studied photojournalism in Saint Petersburg and subsequently completed a master’s program in the Czech Republic, which included a year abroad at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw. It was there that he began working with screen printing. Alexander’s prints are created through a process characterized by spontaneity. His motto is: Print first, then reflect on the result. In this way, he produces a large number of prints and returns to them again and again to add new elements and layers. After some time, Alexander selects unique pieces created in this way, which he then sets aside and thus “completes.” Their place in the stack of prints is taken by blank sheets, on which new artworks gradually emerge. Alexander encounters the visual elements of his prints in his everyday life: everyday objects and urban spaces—broken, repaired, abandoned, or reconstructed. From these motifs, Alexander creates his dynamic visual worlds by arranging, combining, and layering them.
