Richard Marsden

Richard is a British printmaker from Leeds. He is currently studying Fine Art Practice (Print Media) at the Glasgow School of Art. He is also a founding member of the Leeds Print Workshop. Richard is primarily interested in the colors of a print, their relationships to one another, and the effects their combinations have on a work of art. He often uses existing systems to determine the structure of a composition. These may be derived, for example, from the simplification of maps or random sequences of numbers. His artistic practice began as a study of architecture and gradually evolved toward abstraction. The most striking aspect of his work is the visual balance he achieves between forms and colors. Screen printing provides Richard with an ideal medium for this, as it allows him to apply colors evenly, in broad swaths, and in layers.
