Rotem Ritov
Rotem Ritov is a multidisciplinary artist. She employs various techniques, with a primary focus on mixed-media installations combining video, performance, and drawing. Ritov explores the persistence of patriarchal structures in contemporary Middle Eastern culture. She invites the audience to become co-creators and to contribute to the evolving concept through interactive installations. Her goal is to break down barriers and push the boundaries of content and thought in order to create artworks in which complexities deeply rooted in the cultures of the Middle East can be explored, questioned, and retold from feminist and liberal perspectives. Influenced by the cultures, mythology, history, religions, and traditions of the Middle East, Ritov weaves these elements into her work, transcending temporal and geographical boundaries in her search for traces of narratives and belief systems. Deeply engaged with current events as they manifest through religions, narratives, and conflicts, her installations unravel their nuanced interconnections and challenge viewers to critically examine their preconceived notions.
