Susann Pönisch

Susann Pönisch graduated from the Berlin Weißensee Academy of Art in 2015 with a master’s degree. That same year, she co-founded the Jott P.M. printmaking studio in Berlin with two other artists, where she has been working ever since. Printmaking techniques such as woodcut, etching, and, above all, screen printing form the basis of Susann’s work. The prints stand alone or are painted over, collaged, or integrated into other works. Susann draws or paints the templates for her screen prints directly onto tracing paper using a wide variety of materials, such as acrylic, charcoal, graphite, spray paint, and ink. After each printing run, she creates the next print template. The works thus build up slowly, layer by layer, creating a painterly impression. Using this method, Susann produces numerous works on paper and canvas, artist’s books, and small editions, which she exhibits at national and international exhibitions. In 2016, Susann was the winner of the printmaking competition at the Leipzig Book Fair. In 2014 and 2015, she received the award from the Wilhelm and Lotte Neufeld Foundation for German Book Art.
